JOW GA KUNG FU

Lion Dance

The lion dance is performed to bring good luck and scare away evil spirits, and is an important part of Lunar New Year and other celebrations.

Traditionally performed by martial artists, the lion dance requires training across the movements of the dance, controlling the lion to portray a range of emotions, and even acrobatic skills and tricks to add excitement to the performance and ceremony.

Lion dance routines require strength, endurance, agility and teamwork – the benefits of which will be seen across your kung fu training.

In these classes, you will learn our Jow Ga lion dance routines and techniques to make the lion come to life in a safe and welcoming environment. You will also learn the accompanying instruments – the drum, gong and cymbal – and more about this rich Chinese cultural tradition.
